Epic Games is expanding its reach once again, or rather expanding what they already controlled. Today, the developer confirmed that it has acquired the rest of Poland-based developer People Can Fly. Specific terms of the deal were not disclosed. Epic bought a controlling interest in the developer in 2007.
The Verge also reports that the original founders of People Can Fly, Adrian Chmierlarz, Andrzej Poznanski, and Michal Kosieradzki, have elected to now leave the studio. However, it sounds like there are no hard feelings. Epic Games VP Mark Rein stated, "We will be helping (Chmielarz) with some future announcements. Our paths will be crossing again."
People Can Fly first gained fame in 2004 with the release of the original Painkiller game. The company also worked on a project for an unnamed game for THQ which was later cancelled. After Epic bought a majority interest in People Can Fly, the developer worked on the PC port of the first Gears of War game.
In 2011, People Can Fly and Epic co-developed the first person shooter Bulletstorm for publisher Electronic Arts. Despite solid reviews, the game did not sell as well as anticipated. Currently, People Can Fly is working on the next Gears of War game for the Xbox 360 that will be released in March 2013.
