The official Fortnite Twitter account put out a message earlier for Epic Games, which owns the game, stating that the firm had raised $144 million through the sale of in-game items and virtual currency to donate to Ukraine. Epic Games has said that it will send the money to Direct Relief, UNICEF, UN World Food Programme (WFP), UNHCR, and World Central Kitchen. This will help get food to people who need it, help children who are affected by the war, and help refugees.

In addition to the money being given by Epic Games, Microsoft’s Xbox division is giving up the fee it would usually makes from in-game purchases so that more can be given to the charities. Epic Games is not the only gaming firm to raise money for the country, Humble also did a Stand with Ukraine bundle in March where it sold 473,945 bundles between March 18 and March 25 raising a total of for than $20 million.
The war in Ukraine has seen an exodus of 4.2 million refugees leave the country and 6.5 million people have been displaced within the country. Given the sheer scale of people being affected, donations from the likes of Epic Games and Humble will be highly sought after from agencies such as UNICEF, UNHCR, and the World Food Programme.
