Epic Games puts Infinity Blade series to the sword, final updates still to come

With its original installment having launched back at the end of 2010, Infinity Blade raked in a reasonable profit for its publisher Epic Games and developer Chair Entertainment during its lifetime. In fact, the series, during the course of 2011 which then comprised of the first two games of the eventual trilogy and other associated products, managed to bring in roughly $30 million in profits during the course of 2011. These games did receive some post-release attention though, including free multiplayer updates.

However, it"s been over five years since Infinity Blade III was released and, notably, the entire series has remained exclusive to the iOS platform up until today. In a post on its website, Epic Games has announced that the three Infinity Blade titles have been withdrawn from sale effectively immediately along with all in-app purchases. While this means that those who had not bought into the franchise have well and truly missed their opportunity, those who have already purchased one or more of these games can redownload them "for the foreseeable future".

With respect to the development, Global Creative Director, Donald Mustard said:

"The Infinity Blade series will always hold a special place for me personally and for Epic as a whole. It’s always bittersweet to say goodbye, but we are excited for Spyjinx and what the future holds!"

The company also noted that the series was becoming a challenge to support to desired levels alongside its other endeavors.

This is not quite the end of the road as far as content updates are concerned, at least with respect to Infinity Blade III, with "Clash Mobs and other surprises" yet to come. Epic Games closed its post by teasing that the franchise could well be "popping up in places you wouldn"t expect" along with a trailer for Fortnite Season 7.
