The Epic Games Store was launched near the end of last year, hosting only six titles initially. However, given Epic"s strategy of making one game free every fortnight throughout 2019, the store"s portfolio of games is gradually becoming larger. Now, Director of Publishing Strategy at Epic Games, Sergey Galyonkin, has announced that search functionality has now been brought to the store.
The firm has had to face some backlash in response, with people expressing surprise at such a basic feature being introduced to the store nearly three months after its launch. However, Galyonkin has explained that since there were only three first-party titles available in the beginning, a search bar wouldn"t have made sense. In response to a user enquiring about pagination being added to the launcher any time soon, Galyonkin mentioned that "other features", including pages, would be introduced when the store hosts a larger amount of games.
Although the company"s strategy of gradually announcing new functionalities according to the requirements at the time does make sense, users, especially those switching from its competitors would likely want the store to match the others in terms of features as soon as possible. It will, therefore, be interesting to see exactly how and when the induction of more features is brought about.
As per the free-game-per-fortnight scheme, Slime Rancher is currently free on the Epic Games Store until March 21, with Oxenfree as the next freebie in line. If you"re interested in checking out the store, you can download it here from the company"s website by clicking the "Get Epic Games" button in the top right corner of the page.
