Shadow Complex 2 is already largely designed, if Cliff Bleszinski is to be believed about the game"s development. In an interview with the well known gaming website Gamasutra, he had the following to say:
“Shadow Complex 2 is sitting there, it’s actually largely designed, we just need to find a partner that will help us to finish it so we can bring it to market,”
At Gamescom, the company announced that it was working on five new projects, with news that the projects were being spearheaded by multiple people within the company. A second Shadow Complex title would not come as a surprise, due to the fact that the original game was extremely well received. Releasing exclusively on the Xbox LIVE Marketplace in 2009, the game was a side-scroller designed in a similar vein to Metroid and Castlevania. The story told within the original Shadow Complex links in with the novel Empire, by Orson Scott Card. The end of the game ties in with the story of the novel, and Card"s Hidden Empire, which was released a few months after the game, is meant to also tie in.
Both companies responsible for the success of the original Shadow Complex, Chair Entertainment and Epic Games, chose not to release Shadow Complex 2 immediately. Instead, Chair Entertainment were set to work on developing an iOS title. The fruit of this labor was the top-grossing game Infinity Blade. Another interesting point to note was that Epic originally considered directly porting Shadow Complex to iOS before settling on Infinity Blade.
