When Andy Rubin debuted the Essential PH-1 in May, he also promised that it would "ship in 30 days or so". This would later come back to haunt the company, as it would end of delaying the handset"s release to consumers by months. Now that the handset is finally in the hands of thousands, the firm is making good on its promise from earlier in October by updating the handset, improving the user experience.
The new update, rolling out as build NMJ20D, will implement the following fixes and improvements:
- Google security patch from October 2017
- Security patch for KRACK WPA2 vulnerability
- Improved performance and bug fixes
- Improved touch scrolling
- Fingerprint gesture enabled - swipe fingerprint for notifications
This is quite an update which should make current owners happy and also possibly bring more interest to the handset. Those that are thinking about purchasing an Essential will be happy to know that the firm has recently lowered its price to $499 and the Pure White variant is also available at that new price.
