The numbers have come in and they aren"t looking too impressive for Essential. According to estimates from BayStreet Research, the firm has sold around 5,000 smartphones since it started shipping the PH-1 nearly a month ago.
Andy Rubin"s Essential made a very cryptic debut when the co-founder tweeted an image of a phone with a near bezel-less display. Rubin would begin to drum up excitement for the device by showing it off at Code Conference 2017, making the bold statement that it would be shipping in 30 days or so. Sadly, that would never happen, and the company would leave customers and those who were intrigued by the device curious, without any updates.
After a long delay, the Essential PH-1 finally started making its way to customers but it could be that the damage was already done. While there isn"t one specific reason why the PH-1 didn"t have an impressive start out of the gate, there is hope that the firm is taking in all the mistakes from its first product and making sure it doesn"t commit those same mistakes for its next release.
