Fans of the Europa Universalis series of PC strategy games have been waiting a long time for developer and publisher Paradox Interactive to release an all new game in the series. The latest major game in the franchise, Europa Universalis III, was released in January 2007, although there have been plenty of expansion packs and DLC releases for that game since then.
Today, Paradox finally announced it is indeed working on Europa Universalis IV. While Paradox is keeping much of the details to themselves at this point, the company"s press release does offer some more information. As with the previous games, you can become the leader of a nation on Earth, but now you also can use what Paradox is calling Monarch"s Power. The press release states that it will allow players to use "a leader"s traits will direct the ebb and flow of gameplay."
Your reign as leader includes chatting with famous historical figures, making trade deals with other nations and, of course, going to war. Multiplayer battle support will include features such as "hot-join, improved chatting, a new matchmaking server, and support for a standalone server."
Fans of the series will have to wait a little bit longer to get Europa Universalis IV. Paradox does not plan to release the game until sometime in 2013.
