It"s been some time since Eve launched its first and only major piece of hardware, the Eve V. Last year, the company announced it was moving sales of its products to its own website, following some trouble with shipping of the Eve V when it first launched, but the company didn"t have any new products ready to launch. That is, until now.
In a new community update posted today, the company announced that Project Spectrum, the company"s vision for a crowd-sourced monitor, has graduated to Eve Spectrum, and it"s now available for pre-order. The Spectrum is a 27-inch 16:9 monitor, and it comes in three different models, but all of them are fairly high-end. The lower-end model is QHD and has a 144Hz refresh rate, then there"s a QHD model with a 240Hz refresh rate, and finally, a 4K 144Hz model. The lower-end model also has HDR400 certification, while the other two support HDR600 thanks to the higher brightness.
The company is using IPS panels from LG Display, and despite being IPS, the company is still promising a 1ms response time, making it a good choice for gamers. Also helping with that is FreeSync Premium Pro and Nvidia G-Sync Compatible certification. If you need color accuracy, the displays also cover 100% of the sRGB color gamut, and 98% of DCI-P3.
For connectivity, the Spectrum comes with one HDMI port and two DisplayPort 1.4 ports (one for input and one output for daisy-chaining). There are also two USB Type-C with USB 3.1 Gen 2 data speeds, but one of them can also drive a DisplayPort 1.4 signal (both input and output), and even deliver power up to 100W, so you can power your laptop through the monitor. The other can deliver up to 15W, which is still enough to charge a phone. There are three USB Type-A ports with USB 3.1 Gen 2 speeds and 10W power delivery, a USB Type-B port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Finally, the monitor also offers a fair degree of adjustability. It can tilt 8º down and 24º up, adjust height up to 130mm, and rotate 90º in either direction. It can"t swivel horizontally, though.
The three models are up for pre-order today, and Eve is rewarding those who trust the product early on with the best prices. The base model is available for $349 and is slated for the third quarter. The mid-range model is $489, and the top-end 4K model is $589, and both are planned for the fourth quarter of the year. These prices will gradually go up as the release date gets closer until they reach the final retail price, so if you want one, it may be a good idea to order it now.
Keep in mind, though, that none of the models includes a stand, which adds $99 to your order. This decision was based on community feedback, with Eve saying that 46% of its community members wanted an option to buy the monitor without the stand to use with a VESA mount instead.
Update: Eve has sent an e-mail to customers stating that the first 500 units of the Spectrum have been sold, and as such, prices have increased by $10 for each of the models.
