Facebook, Google, Microsoft, Twitter, and others team up to fight COVID-19 misinformation

On March 11, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 as a pandemic. Now, the tally of total confirmed cases of COVID-19 has reached more than 180,000 with over 7,000 deaths. Considering this situation, panic stemming from it sometimes leads to misreporting and misinterpretation of facts.

With this in mind, Facebook, Google, Microsoft, LinkedIn, Twitter, YouTube, and Reddit have announced that they are joining hands to provide accurate information about the COVID-19 coronavirus disease.

As is clear from the official statement above, the tech giants will be focusing on combating misinformation and extracting authentic news. Out of these names, a few companies have already begun taking appropriate measures to help the situation. To name a few, YouTube has started monetizing useful content related to coronavirus and the World Health Organization received free advertisements on Facebook.
