Facebook launches Facebook Stories website

While Facebook is dealing with the fact that their stock price has plummeted since its IPO launch in May, the company continues to add new features to its service. Today, Facebook launched a new stand alone website, Facebook Stories.

The website itself is supposed to be, in Facebook"s own words, "...a way to share the extraordinary, quirky and thought-provoking stories and ideas from the more than 950 million people around the world who make up Facebook"s community." Each month starts out with a different theme for the stories. For its debut month, the theme is "Remembering."

In addition to stories submitted by Facebook users, Facebook Stories will also have a list of recommended books and music to check out, again based on the particular theme for each month. It will also feature an archive of stories from The New Yorker magazine. There"s also a monthly Facebook Stories podcast.

All in all, this sounds like an attempt by Facebook to create a kind of online monthly magazine, with articles that are submitted by its Facebook users. Quite frankly, we are not sure exactly why Facebook is launching such a website, but perhaps it will appeal to a more literary audience.
