Facebook continues to grow around the world, adding millions of users a day. The social network giant has reached 600 million active monthly users, according to Goldman, via businessinsider.
Although Facebook statistics still show the site has 500 million users, reports indicate that the social network giant is waiting to reach the 1 billion mark before making the next big announcement.
Facebook launched in February 2004, and has since added, on average, 100 million users a year, the majority of which have signed up over the past few years. The site"s member database is still increasing exponentially, becoming one of the fastest growing websites in history.
Since its launch in 2004, the website, and owner Mark Zuckerberg, have come under heavy scrutiny and numerous lawsuits, including claims that he stole the idea of the website. Facebook has also been targeted for a number of privacy concerns, a system the company has revamped a number of times already. Last year ,a popular movie made about the website, called "The Social Network," that showcased the story of how Mark Zuckerberg originated and how the site has since grown.
Based on predictions of the website"s growth, Facebook should reach 1 billion users sometime in late 2012.
