Facebook spruces up Messenger for Valentine's Day

Facebook has announced some alterations to Messenger in order to put you in the mood for Valentine’s Day. While the new Messenger features are scheduled to be introduced on February 14th, it appears as though Facebook will keep them around so you can use them throughout the year.

According to the social media giant, if you indicate you’re in a relationship on Facebook, you’ll receive a notification from Messenger that will open up a conversation with your partner. Upon entering the chat, your screen will be showered with hearts, just to remind you who you’re speaking to.

Facebook made some additions to camera and video chat filters. In its announcement, it said:

"If you’re planning to send someone a love note tomorrow, make it special this year with a variety of fun filters and effects in the Messenger Camera. Try out the heart eyes filter (open your mouth and you’ll see a fun animation), add some festive flair with a falling candy heart effect or channel your inner royalty with the Queen of Hearts filter.”

Some other additions include a custom emoji in the lower right hand corner of Messenger will be replaced with the emoji with heart eyes, allowing you to more quickly and easily spread the love; you’ll be asked to personalise the chat by setting your own custom text colour, emoji, and even add a nickname; and lastly, your partner will be first to appear in the Active tab when they’re online to chat.

There’s not long left now until Valentine’s Day so be sure to keep an eye out for the new additions to Messenger.
