In March, BlackBerry accused Facebook-owned messaging service WhatsApp of infringing upon a number of its patents, and filed a lengthy lawsuit against it. Facebook now seems intent on turning the tables on BlackBerry, so to speak, and has filed a number of lawsuits in a Los Angeles court, in apparent retaliation.
According to its 118-page court filing, Facebook accuses BlackBerry of infringing upon six of its patents, including its voice-messaging tech, its algorithms to analyze GPS data, and certain tech pertinent to the delivery of audio, video, and graphics. The company claims that these infringements have “caused and will continue to cause damage” to Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp.
Facebook hasn"t yet given any numbers to go with its demand for monetary compensation, however. BlackBerry has offered no comment on the matter so far.
