Facebook will let most of its employees to continue working from home through the end of 2020, as the Menlo Park firm begins to open most of its offices on July 6. The firm"s CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg is expected to make the formal announcement later today.
Facebook is yet to determine which employees are to be asked to come in for their jobs, as Zuckerberg stated last month that most employees are able to work remotely. Last month, Zuckerberg also announced that all physical events with more than 50 people would be canceled through June 2021.
When asked about the decision, the firm said that a variety of factors were taken into consideration, including information from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC), Johns Hopkins, and government directions. Facebook was one of the first companies to ask employees to switch to working from home, with the firm stating that hourly employees would be paid even if they cannot work due to various reasons, which include office closures, reduced staffing, or if they"re ill.
The firm also gave its employees $1,000 bonuses in a bid to support its workforce working remotely amidst the coronavirus crisis.
