Fake Maxtor Drives Reported in Japan

According to local press, forged Maxtor MaXLine II hard disk drives have been making their way into the Japanese market. Alleged fakes feature a 320GB capacity while Maxtor only produces 250GB and 300GB varieties for retail channels. Fake drives are labeled with the model number "5A320J0" and use a different font on the drive label than legitimate models. Fakes can also be spotted by the usage of a lowercase "x" in the MaXLine product name. It is not clear how widespread the counterfeiting has become.
