Fantasy Strike, a Street Fighter-style fighting game, is now free to play

Fantasy Strike is a unique fighting game created by the lead designer of Capcom"s Street Fighter HD Remix, David Sirlin. The bright and colourful title was announced back in 2017 and launched on the PlayStation 4 and PC via Steam initially. Eventually, the non-traditional fighting game made its way to the Nintendo Switch platform as well.

Today developer Sirlin Games announced that Fantasy Strike has now become free-to-play, with the latest update rolling out major changes to reflect this. A new trailer has also been posted to re-introduce the fighting title in its newfound free-to-play state, as seen above.

#FantasyStrike is now free to play on Steam, PS4, and Switch.

No pay-to-win or grind-to-unlock, all characters are free. The kind of free-to-play the genre has been waiting for.

All characters will be available free of cost to all players, including two new characters that were introduced today. These characters can be played in online casual play, online ranked play, offline practice mode, and offline “single match” mode against AI. Purchasable items include cosmetics such as costumes and animations, an optional subscription service called Fantasy+, and a core pack.

The core pack includes five more game modes in addition to the ones mentioned previously. These are Arcade Mode, Survival, Boss Rush, local versus, and online friend matches. If you already own the game, fret not because those who already purchased the game already have access to these modes and will continue to have them.

Fantasy Strike is available for the PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch, Windows, Mac, and Linux platforms. Those interested in gaining ownership of the game may do so at the respective console stores or through Steam for PC.
