Ubisoft unveiled Far Cry 5 earlier this year, bringing players back from the usual exotic regions to the United States, putting them up against a doomsday cult. Although the studio had already revealed that the game will include cooperative play as in past titles in the series, it has now detailed how the system will work.
Players will be able to invite their friends into their session right after finishing the game"s tutorial and play the game in co-op from then on. The new player will be dropping in to take over one companion slot from the two that are reserved for hiring human or animal allies. This means that even though co-op is limited to two players, the host can hire an additional AI ally to keep them company while raining destruction upon Hope County.
The developer is also implementing additional features like voice-chat, ammo and health pack sharing, teleporting players together If someone wanders off, along with a friendly fire toggle that should keep everyone on their toes.
There are some caveats, however, as only the host will get to keep the world progression, such as story missions, while the co-op partner will retain player progression, letting them keep any perks, money, guns and other unlocks toward their own game.
While the cooperative features should satisfy players that look forward to it, Ubisoft isn"t forcing it on anyone. Cooperative play can be disabled outright for players that prefer the solo experience.
Far Cry 5 is slated to launch on February 27, with it arriving for PC, Xbox One, and PlayStation 4.
