As the pre-E3 reveals continue, Ubisoft gave a look at Far Cry 6 gameplay for the first time today as promised. So far, we had only seen a cinematic trailer, but today"s footage showed a good chunk of the upcoming action game"s mechanics. It is very much a Far Cry entry, featuring another unforgiving open world, brutal combat, and a toolset tailormade for generating over-the-top action sequences.
The first trailer, seen above, introduced us to the protagonist Dani Rojas, a "modern guerrilla" that will be going up against the military force of Yara"s dictator Antón Castillo (played by Giancarlo Esposito). Dani can be either a man or a woman depending on the player"s choice. It"s the second trailer that gives a more comprehensive look at the mainline entry, seen below.
The game will be playable both solo and in two player co-op, letting players tear across the jungles, towns, and cities of the island together as they venture to take down Castillo"s regime using guerrilla tactics learned from the revolutionary group Libertad. To help with this, there are special armaments involved this time named resolver weapons. A CD shooting gun that plays Macarena on a loop, a motorcycle-engine-powered minigun, along with the special "Supremo" backpacks that tout overpowered abilities like a barrage of homing missiles and AOE fire blasts, are only some of them.
Adding to the usual array of vehicles seen in the franchise, horses and tanks are now methods for getting around. A smuggling system that involves lying to or bribing guards as well as animal companions – including the wiener dog Chorizo and Guapo the shirt-wearing crocodile – are also confirmed. Also, if players have their guns holstered, they can also pass by would-be enemy soldiers without having to resort to violence.
Far Cry 6 is coming out on October 7 across PC (Ubisoft Store and Epic Games Store), Xbox One, Xbox Series X, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, and Amazon Luna. The Ubisoft+ subscription will also grant access to the game from day one.
