During the reveal of Google"s Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro, a lot of hope was running on large boosts in charging speeds over the last generation. While coming with a 30-watt charger in the box, the latest Pixel phones don"t seem quite capable of utilizing it to its fullest.
Android Authority has put the phone through the paces, and it seems that both current generation Pixel phones peak at 22W charging. While this is an improvement over the Pixel 5, it isn"t massive considering the Pixel 5 pulled off 18W. Google did not explicitly state that the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro would be capable of utilizing the full 30W charger.
While the fine print on Google"s website states "Up to 50% charge in 30 minutes with Google 30W USB-C", it achieves that percentage while utilizing a maximum of 22W charging.
Another drawback with the devices is that they have slower unlock speeds due to "enhanced" protection during fingerprint scanning, with all that said, though, the Pixel 6 and Pixel 6 Pro are quite affordable in the age of increasing prices on smartphones.
Update: Power adapter not included in the box.
