When Final Fantasy XV launched in November 2016, it quickly became the best-selling title in the franchise after it shipped over five million copies in just 24 hours of launch. Even though the game only launched on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at that point in time, gamers on PC have eagerly been waiting for the Windows version to finally arrive.
Although Square Enix noted that it was scheduled to launch in early 2018, today at gamescom fans finally received a detailed look at the graphical upgrades one can expect. The developer, in partnership with NVIDIA, has packed the upcoming version of the game with several key features relating to GameWorks; including:
- NVIDIA Flow – creates vivid, combustible fluid, fire and smoke.
- NVIDIA HairWorks – creates dynamic, life-like hair and fur for characters, animals and monsters that inhabit the game.
- NVIDIA ShadowWorks – enables characters to cast shadows on themselves.
- NVIDIA Turf Effects – creates life-like grass and vegetation in the game environment.
- NVIDIA VXAO – adds depth and realism based on the physics principles shadows and light.
All these features can be seen in the trailer below, which visualizes what it will look like if you have the required hardware. Beyond these, the game will fully support GeForce-specific features such as Ansel, a feature that allows you to capture in-game images and add post-processing to them to create an Instagram-like moment; and ShadowPlay Highlights, which allows you to capture and share gameplay.
Director of Final Fantasy XV Hajime Tabata commented on the partnership with NVIDIA in the official press release:
“With the help of NVIDIA, we are creating a stunning visual experience in Final Fantasy XV Windows Edition, one worthy of this beloved franchise. NVIDIA pushes the pace of innovation in our industry, and that benefits gamers and developers alike.”
