Finland now the top Windows Phone market

Windows Phone seems to be gaining traction, at least in some countries around the world. Microsoft said recently that in China, Windows Phone now has seven percent of the country"s market for smartphones. Now a new report claims that Finland has an even high percentage of Windows Phone users.

Pingdom reports that, according to info from StatCounter"s mobile web browsing statistics, Windows Phone now commands 7.53 percent of all mobile web users. That"s well ahead of the second place country, Iceland, where only 2.30 percent of mobile web browsing is handled by a Windows Phone device. Worldwide, that percentage dips down to just 0.53 percent.

Of course, Finland is the home country of Nokia, the makers of the Lumia line of Windows Phone products. It stands to reason that Windows Phone web activity would be higher in that part of the world.

The story also lists the other top 10 Windows Phone markets, at least according to web browsing stats. Germany is sixth with 1.67 percent and Italy is seventh with 1.63 percent. Spain is 10th with 1.43 percent. The US and UK didn"t even make the top 10, despite reports of solid sales in the US for the recent Lumia 900.
