Mozilla have taken yet another step forward towards completing the widely anticipated Firefox 4.0, by making beta 10 available on their servers last night; but not before revising their beta plan, which could see as many as two more beta versions before the final lands in February. Firefox release manager, Christian Legnitto, had this to say in a blog posting yesterday, "This is the updated beta plan as discussed in the Platform meeting earlier today. It is a modification of the previous plan based on current bug counts and fix rates"
A final beta 11 can go ahead if all hard betaN blockers are completed before Friday afternoon PST (28th), which sticks to the original planning. However in the revised plan, a judgment call on Tuesday (02/01) will be made if hardblockers are not fixed before then and again on Friday afternoon PST 02/04.
If on Tuesday the remaining betaN hardblockers look at risk to land by Friday (2011-02-04) we will create beta 11 on Tuesday and plan on having a beta 12. Beta 12 will not have a fixed schedule and will instead be built when the remaining betaN hardblockers are at zero
Firefox 4, based on the Gecko 2.0 engine, will bring an updated user interface, new ways to organise tabs, a revamped add-on manager, support for HTML5 video standards, multitouch support on Windows 7 and a range of performance and security enhancements. The full release notes for beta 10 can be viewed here.
Don"t forget that you can discuss this beta, and nightly builds right here on Neowin in the "Meet Firefox 4.0 (beta 10)" topic.
