CNET spoke with Mozilla"s VP of mobile, Jay Sullivan, regarding the development of Firefox mobile and where it currently stands. With Firefox Mobile only being available on select Maemo devices, not many users are being exposed to the world"s first add-on capable mobile browser.
Mozilla has decided to drop Windows Mobile development until a native development kit is made available. Until then, the company will focus its resources on Android. Sullivan expects a beta version of Firefox Mobile to be available for Android sometime in late 2010. Assuming they"re able to stick to this timetable, we can safely assume that an alpha version will show itself sometime in Q3.
Firefox Mobile will bring add-ons to the mobile browsing world - something no other mobile browser has accomplished. It will support location aware browsing, web site IDs, a pop-up blocker, full history, tab, and bookmark sync between phone and PC (with Weave Sync), and much more.
