Firefox OS-based Matchstick concludes Kickstarter campaign successfully

The Kickstarter campaign for the Firefox OS-based HDMI stick, Matchstick, has ended successfully as the project surpassed its goal within the month.

Matchstick, Inc and Mozilla announced their partnership last month to develop a streaming device to take on similar products such as Google Chromecast, Microsoft Wireless Adapter and the recently launched Amazon FireTV. Now, Matchstick is one step closer to launch as its Kickstarter campaign has achieved its funding target.

The initial goal set for the campaign was $100,000 which was met within days and increased regularly beyond that until finally gathering $470,310 from 17,218 backers at the end of the month.

It was earlier revealed that Matchstick will be powered by a dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 4GB of onboard storage. The main promised feature at the time of the announcement was "flinging" of content from smartphones or browsers to the TV. Now, the Kickstarter page has revealed that Matchstick will also feature support for ad-hoc networks and local servers without internet connectivity.

The development of the device is well on track, as Matchstick, Inc has revealed that they now have a fully working product along with apps for Firefox, Chrome, iOS, and Android. The company expects to ramp up the production in the next 30-60 days to deliver the device to consumers by February.
