Mozilla is planning to release its screenshot tool for all users by late September with Firefox 56. Firefox 56 is due for release on September 26th, and in the meantime, it will be enabling Screenshots Beta for some users on Firefox 55 to work out any remaining bugs.
Janette Ciborowski, Media Relations Manager at Mozilla, confirmed the plans to Neowin saying:
“We"re rolling out screenshots in [Firefox] 55 over the course of several weeks to run final checks on user interface polish and server performance for uploading shots. We"ll roll out to ~50% of Release 55 users before our official launch with Firefox 56 in late September.”
The screenshot tool appears next to your browser extensions and home button after it has been enabled. Unlike other screenshot tools, this one will only let you grab web pages, but has a nifty feature where the selection tool locks onto individual page elements.
Some users have already been enrolled into the Screenshots Beta, however, if you haven"t, it"s possible to join in manually, just follow these instructions:
- Go to about:config
- Click the I accept the risk! button on the warning page, if it appears
- Search for extensions.screenshots.system-disabled
- Double click the matching row to toggle the value from true to false
- Close the browser tab and restart Firefox
Let us know, are you looking forward to using Firefox Screenshots?
