As promised earlier today, Activision has now released the first gameplay trailer for Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. The latest game in the modern military first person shooter series is officially due to be released on November 8, according to the end of the trailer. It also confirms that the game is a collaboration between developers Infinity Ward, the Southern California studio who created the series, and Sledgehammer Games, the newest Activision in-house development studio based in Northern California.
The trailer which you can check out after the jump, shows a ton of spectacular action set pieces with locations like London, Paris, an unnamed city in Germany and New York City. That latter city in the game looks like it has been hit by a number of explosions that have reshaped the familiar Manhattan skyline.
Modern Warfare 3 certainly has a lot to live up to, at least in terms of the game"s sales. The last game in the series, 2010"s Call of Duty Black Ops (set mostly in the 1960s and developed by Treyarch) has now become the single best selling video-PC game of all time in the US with over 20 million copies sold. Modern Warfare 3 will also be the first Infinity Ward-developed game in the series that won"t have the input of the studio"s co-founders who were fired from their posts by Activision in March 2010. They and others from Infinity Ward have since regrouped and formed Respawn Entertainment and are working on their first game for publisher Electronic Arts.
