In April, a team launched a Kickstarter campaign to fund the development of Pebble, a wristwatch that would link to your iPhone or Android-based smartphone for a number of different functions. The response to the Kickstarter project was immediate: People started pledging their money to be the first to receive the Pebble devices before they would be made available to the general public. In the end, the Pebble team raised over $10 million in the single biggest campaign ever on Kickstarter.
Originally, the first Pebble wristwatches were supposed to ship to the Kickstarter backers in September. Today, in a post on their Kickstarter page, the team has admitted that the devices won"t ship that month after all. While the team didn"t offer a new date, it added, " ... our current schedule has us on track to go from manufacturing zero to 15,000 Pebbles per week as soon as possible."
People who did back the Pebble were also given a chance to vote for a fourth color scheme for the device, to join the previously announced Jet Black, Arctic White, and Cherry Red. Today, the Pebble team has announced that the winning fourth color will in fact be Orange. The post states, "The exact color appearance may vary from this rendering as we work with our plastics supplier."
