After releasing several teaser trailers about a week ago, game publisher Activision plans to launch the first "real" trailer for its upcoming modern military first person shooter Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 later this evening. The info comes from Robert Bowling, the community manager for the game"s main developer Infinity Ward. He posted word via his Twitter page today that the trailer will be shown during TNT"s broadcast of game 4 of the NBA"s Western Conference Finals playoff game. The trailer itself will be shown around 9 pm Eastern time and will likely be released via the Internet around the same time, perhaps in a longer version.
Publisher Activision has been trying to keep a lid on the details of the next game in its mega-selling game franchise but as we reported earlier this month, details about Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 leaked out onto the Internet before Activision had planned to reveal them. In a recent chat with Joystiq, Activision Publishing CEO Eric Hirshberg said that "while it"s definitely not cool to steal other people"s intellectual property, and while it"s definitely not cool to leak stuff that"s not yours" he added that instead of getting mad the company decided to use the leak as a new marketing opportunity.
That included releasing four Modern Warfare 3 teasers trailers via YouTube that showed four of the game"s locations around the world. At the moment, Modern Warfare 3 is targeted for a release on November 8 according to various online retail web sites.
