Fitbit is a popular activity tracking device quite similar to Nike’s Fuelband and other such products on the market. We reported a while back when they launched a Windows 8 app and we deemed it as a worthy first try. We also wondered if a Windows Phone app would be launched in the near future, Fitbit already being present on both iOS and Android, but at the time the company stated they had no such plans.
However they have now officially confirmed a Fitbit app is in the works and will soon be coming to Windows Phone 8 devices. After teasing on Twitter yesterday the company support team e-mailed one of their curious customers saying that they are indeed working on said app and even though they don’t have an official date of release they expect it to be soon. Whether that means days or months remains to be seen.
Fitbit’s playful and colorful esthetic will fit in nicely with Microsoft’s own design sensibilities and the Live Tile feature will definitely come in handy when you want to check your progress on the go. One issue that comes up is that the latest Fitbits use some Bluetooth technologies that aren’t present in Windows Phone 8 even though the phone hardware might actually support them. It remains to be seen whether the Windows Phone 8 app will be a full featured one like its iOS and Android counterparts or whether it will be a very basic version similar to the Windows 8 app.
