Fitbit launches the Alta fitness bracelet with a focus on style and design

After announcing its newest smartwatch at CES, the Fitbit Blaze, the company is now looking to expand its line of fashionable activity-tracking wearable and it’s introducing the Fitbit Alta.

The Alta is a bracelet wearable that comes with a medium-sized AMOLED touchscreen, detachable bands and a reported five days of battery life. In terms of features, the Alta comes with all the usual slew of tracking capabilities, including the new SmartTrack algorithm that can automatically recognize different types of exercises.

But the clear focus with this device is its appeal outside of the gym. Fitbit is trying hard to make its products be perceived not only as fitness devices but also as fashion accessories, a strategy that others are trying with wearables as well.

The Alta allows users to choose between different types or bands, starting with regular plastic in different colors, going through leather and rounding out the list with stainless steel. These will cost a bit extra though, with plastic coming in at $30 while leather and steel will be $60 and $100 respectively.

The Fitbit Alta is available for pre-sale on Fitbit.com right now, with models showing up in physical shops and online stores tomorrow. However, the devices will only start shipping in March.
