Five Nights at Freddy"s first made its debut three years ago after negative critical reception of Scott Cawthon"s game, Chipper & Sons. Many thought the game"s characters were a bit creepy, and while this definitely wasn"t his intention, he used this feedback to hit back with something that was intentionally scary.
A few years year later, Five Nights at Freddy"s has become a popular series, spawning several sequels, books, and even has a movie in the works. Although a new sequel was planned and in development, it now appears that Cawthon will not be working on the new game. In a post on the Steam forums, the creator cited mounting pressure to create something better than the last as one of the reasons that the game has been canceled. He also explains that while there won"t be a sequel, he won"t be stepping away from games, instead focusing his efforts on something new.
Although he hasn"t stated officially what he will be working on, he did say he wants to create something "lighthearted". This might come as a disappointment to some, but it"s important that he is taking some personal time to make sure that his life is in order and that things are okay. Luckily, if you have yet to experience the game or any of its sequels, you can now take advantage of special pricing thanks to the Steam Summer Sale that is going on until July 5.
