BugBear Entertainment sent along an email this morning announcing that indeed they are developing a sequel to FlatOut, oddly enough titled FlatOut 2. With sales of the original game crossing the 600,000 mark, and according to BugBear on the way to 1,000,000 sales, a sequel was apparently inevitable. FlatOut 2 will be released during the 1st half of 2006 for the PC, Playstation 2 and X-Box. No word on whether or not next-generation consoles will see any action, but it certainly wouldn"t be unexpected.
Using an enhanced Crash TrueT game engine, even more interaction in the game world is possible. Creating chrashes and chaos is the name of the game here, and the newly enhanced engine is sure to please. A new advanced scoring system for the Rag Doll events will be in place, along with a new launching mechanic. 12 all new events will be included, including new Rag Doll Championship events and online Rag Doll play. Speaking of online play, FlatOut 2 will support up to 8 players on the PC (the original FlatOut only supported LAN play on the PC) and X-Box Live, and 6 players for Playstation 2. All three will support online voice communications.
Each track in the game will have 2000+ destructible objects for you to crash into. As in the first game, cash bonuses and nitro boosts will come from all damage done in a race, whether it is other cars or the previously mentioned 2000+ destructible objects. FlatOut 2 will also come with brand new Demolition Arenas, where you can earn extra money for car upgrades and just pretty much destroy everything.
