Ford's head man Alan Mulally seems to downplay Microsoft CEO rumors

Last week, AllThingsD.com reported, via unnamed sources, that the committee at Microsoft searching for its next CEO had narrowed its search and that it was in discussions with current Ford CEO Alan Mulally. If that"s true, then Mulally seems to be keeping those talks to himself.

USA Today says they got in contact with Mulallay and he told the newspaper, "I love serving Ford and have nothing new to add to (my) plans to continue serving Ford." While USA Today"s article makes it sound like that"s a total dismissal of the Microsoft rumors, the quote is not a direct denial that he has had discussions with Microsoft.

Mulally was quoted a few weeks ago as saying he planned to stay on as CEO of Ford until at least the end of 2014, but the car company"s board of directors have also said they would not keep Mulally from departing earlier than that date if he wanted to do so. AllThingsD.com reported last week that "serious" talks have occurred between Mulally and Microsoft for him to take on the top spot at the company. The same report said that Microsoft executive Tony Bates, the former CEO of Skype, is also still in the running for the CEO gig.
