With Euro 2004 dreams over, a UK team is hoping to salvage some pride from the Imagine Cup - a global student programming challenge, held by Microsoft. The Brits have made the final in Sao Paulo, Brazil and will be battling against teams from over 30 other countries for a grand prize of $25,000.
Ali Gardezi (University of Sheffield), Andrew Grieve (University of Aberdeen) and Mat Steeples (University of Hull) beat nearly 5,000 other students to win the UK final of the Imagine Cup in April. The students will present an enhanced version of their UK winning application "The Juice" during the final in Brazil.
"The Juice" helps students get the very most out of University life by bringing together social and academic resources in a location-aware application that can be accessed from any mobile device. "The Juice" was conceived during a grueling three-day-and-night codeathon at the UK final, where they competed against 7 other teams made up of student finalists from universities across the UK.
