In a new blog post, Epic Games revealed that its massively popular shooter on PC and consoles, Fortnite Battle Royale, will be arriving at iOS and Android platforms. According to the developer, this will not be a spin-off or a cut-down version of the game and will be no different to the game that is available on all other platforms.
Playable on phones and tablets, the mobile version features 100-player battle royale rounds with the "Same gameplay, same map, same content," as well as the "same weekly updates." Realistically, however, we expect the graphics to receive some sort of a downgrade.
But, the announcement also came with another surprise, with Epic Games announcing a partnership with Sony to introduce official cross-play and cross-progression support between "PlayStation 4, PC, Mac, iOS and eventually Android." Although cross-play between Xbox One and PlayStation 4 has occurred accidentally in the past, this official implementation curiously doesn"t include the Microsoft console, perhaps due to Sony"s reluctance.
Epic will begin Fortnite"s mobile venture with iOS devices first, with sign-ups being available beginning on March 12 via the game"s official website. Those who are interested will require an iPhone 6S/SE, iPad Mini 4, iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or an iPad 2017, and it must be running on iOS 11.
