After nearly three years of development, Epic has announced today that Save the World mode for Fortnite is leaving the Early Access period. It revealed that the mode"s main story "is complete," and it will remain a "premium experience," which means people who wish to play must pay. “Development of new content will slow down after this official release,” the firm noted. Epic had originally planned to make Fortnite"s PvE element free-to-play.
As per the announcement, all Founder players, who purchased the game at full price, will have their Founder"s Packs upgraded to the next level. Additionally, they"ll be entitled to unlock rewards in the upgraded pack for free. In the meanwhile, Ultimate Edition owners will be granted the new Metal Team Leader Pack and 8,000 V-Bucks.
Epic will remove the Early Access Label from Fortnite"s battle royale mode, and Save the World won"t be able to support all upcoming cosmetic purchases in the battle royale mode in the coming months. However, the existing library of cosmetics will work in both modes. Epic is also transitioning to Ventures, a new seasonal activity, which offers players paths of continual progression and new levels to climb.
Conquering the challenges in Ventures will earn you seasonal experience which impacts the level of difficulty you encounter, weapons you find, and the seasonal rewards that you earn. Reaching higher seasonal Ventures levels unlocks Supercharger materials that can raise the level of items in your main collection -- beyond their current cap.
It"s not clear yet when Ventures will go live, but Epic says it will share more as the release gets closer. The final launch of Save the World mode is introducing Metal Team Leader, a new purchase pack. This comes with a new hero, Back Bling, challenges, and unlocks Save the World at a new $20 price point.
