Epic Games has prepared an enhanced version of its behemoth free-to-play title Fortnite for the upcoming next-generation consoles from Microsoft and Sony. Available day one for both parties, the next-gen Fortnite will offer bumped up resolutions, dynamic visuals, and more, with Epic adding that the new versions "aren’t simply tweaked last-gen builds but new native ones to harness the power of the new consoles."
The Xbox Series X will see 4K 60FPS gameplay in Fortnite along with significantly faster load times for both textures and matches. Enhanced visuals such as "cooler-looking smoke and liquid effects," storm and cloud effects, as well as physics upgrades featuring grass and trees that react to explosions are included too.
Xbox Series S will feature the faster load times and "most of the visual enhancements" that are available on the Series X, but it will only run the game at 1080p 60FPS.
Meanwhile on the PlayStation 5, the same enhancements that are featured on the Series X are available, but the Sony console gets a couple of extra goodies. These include DualSense controller support with haptic feedback for ranged weapons, and PlayStation 5 Activities, which lets players jump straight into battle royale lobbies across Solos, Duos, or Squads from the menu.
All consoles will also support 60FPS play on split-screen. Cross-play and cross-progression support for Fortnite will be featured on the new generation of consoles too, letting players pick up from where they left off once they log in to their old accounts.
Moreover, while these are the day-one enhancements, Epic expects to add further upgrades to next-gen Fortnite going forward, saying that "as we spend even more time with these consoles, we look forward to exploring new ways to maximize the potential of both".
