Four Sony Xperia handsets won't get any more Android updates

The initial joy of getting a brand new device can wear a bit thin after a while, especially as manufacturers and carriers drag their feet with delivering updates. More often than we"d like, companies stop updating our devices long before we"re done using them.

Sony is the latest company that will no longer be delivering Android OS updates to a bunch of its devices - and one of those handsets is little more than a year old. Four Sony Xperia devices will receive no further updates:

Xperia C

Released: July 2013, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
Final OS update: July 2013, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
The most recent non-OS software update for this handset was released in August 2014.

Xperia L

Released: May 2013, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Final OS update: October 2013, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean
The most recent non-OS software update for this handset was released in April 2014.

Xperia M

Released: August 2013, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Final OS update: March 2014, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
The most recent non-OS software update for this handset was released in June 2014.

Xperia SP

Released: April 2013, Android 4.1 Jelly Bean
Final OS update: February 2014, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean
The most recent non-OS software update for this handset was released in June 2014.

Owners of these devices - which are all less than 18 months old - will no doubt be disappointed that they won"t be upgraded to the latest version of Android, 4.4 KitKat. But perhaps a more bitter pill for them to swallow is the fact that KitKat was announced over a year ago, and yet, Sony hasn"t brought these handsets up to date with the current OS version in all that time.
