FreedomPop introduces unlimited WhatsApp SIM to UK customers

FreedomPop has introduced a new SIM offer for UK customers which allows for unlimited WhatsApp data usage. The new SIM, which is entirely free outside the initial £5 purchasing fee will give users 100 minutes, 200 texts, and 200MB of data every month. That data will not be affected by WhatsApp usage, and the messaging app will continue to function even if you run out of your allotted data.

On a global scale, this is not the first time FreedomPop has subsidised WhatsApp usage. Earlier this month, for instance, the same offer as what is available for UK users now was unveiled in the United States. Prior to the offer being extended to UK and US users, Spanish users were also given free WhatsApp data usage by the carrier.

At the US launch, Chris Chen, FreedomPop"s SVP Product, said:

“There really is no reason anyone should have to pay for voice and text in today"s environment. Over-the-top communication services like WhatsApp have eliminated the need for traditional voice and text services that carriers still for U.S. users to pay hundreds of dollars a year for. The zero-rated model is gaining traction in more developing countries, and FreedomPop is leading the way here in the U.S.”

The SIM offer includes roaming meaning that you can use your free allowance in 30 countries, including the UK, US, Germany, France, Portugal, Italy, Bangladesh, Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.
