'Friday the 13th: The Video Game' currently in development

Horror fans might have something to cheer for this year as EGM reports that a studio is developing a game based on the fictional events of Friday the 13th. The game is tentatively titled "Friday the 13th: The Video Game" and will follow an asymmetrical, competitive multiplayer design, tasking a group of people to survive against a single player charged with controlling the relentless machete-wielding antagonist, Jason Vorhees.

Details have not been revealed about which development studio is making the game but we do know that the game will integrate elements from the movie as well as the upcoming Friday the 13th Television series. Sean S. Cunningham, creator of the original film had a lot to say about the game:

With a new television series on the horizon and plans announced for the thirteenth installment of the film franchise, we felt the timing was right to finally explore Jason, Camp Crystal Lake, and the rest of the Friday the 13th story in interactive form. We have some exciting new ideas for a game that supplies plenty of replay value, while delivering the kinds of thrills and scares that fans of the franchise have come to expect.

Cunningham also hinted that the game is being developed by an "experienced studio" but did not disclose the name.

Moving forward, the tentatively named "Friday the 13th: The Video Game" game is slated for an October 2015 release and is being developed for multiple platforms. The identity of the development studio behind the creation of the game will be revealed in the next few weeks.
