Thanks to a collaboration between Funraise and PayPal, the chances that "sorry, no cash" will work when you"re asked for a charitable donation while you"re out and about continue to diminish.
Funraise builds software for nonprofits; their clients include Red Nose Day and the National Wildlife Federation. Ahead of this year"s Giving Day, scheduled for November 28th, the company has partnered with PayPal on Funraise Reader, a new system for collecting donations at charity events. The system lets donors "swipe and give", and integrates detailed donor data into the nonprofit"s CRM for future marketing, research, and re-donation nudges. As well, it immediately shows donors the impact of their giving with progress bars and links to campaign sites.
According to Funraise co-founder and CEO Justin Wheeler, in-person events are a significant part of the giving season, and when people can see the results of their donation in real time, it prompts them to give more, and more often. During trial runs, YMCA Center For Civic Engagement Associate Director Elise Dugger credited the app with donation totals which were three to five times larger than the previous year - which is potentially good news for charities figuring out ways of dealing with the ongoing march to our completely cashless future.
Funraise utilizes PayPal Here mobile payment technology and is currently in beta.
