Gaikai launches streaming PC game demos on Facebook

Want to play games on your PC while still on Facebook? It used to be that you were stuck with games like Farmville but now that seems to be changing. The streaming game company Gaikai announced today that it has launched its web-based Facebook app, allowing users of the service to stream high end PC game demos while still being able to use and stay connected to Facebook.

The selection of game demos available via the app is still pretty sparse at this point but it does include titles such as THQ"s Saints Row – The Third and Capcom"s Dead Rising 2 – Off the Record for US Facebook users. In addition, Paradox"s Magicka, City Interactive"s Sniper – Ghost Warrior, CD Projekt Red"s The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings, Robot Entertainment"s Orcs Must Die! and (oddly enough) Farming Simulator 2011 can be streamed for both US and European Facebook owners.

The Facebook app does require that the user be in a Gaikai coverage area with a broadband internet connection and Java installed. It works on IE, Firefox, Safari and Chrome on PC, Mac and Linux platforms. The app"s page claims that full games will be coming soon along with "your favorite MMOs".
