Samsung latest flagship phones, the Galaxy Note10 and Note10+, won"t be compatible with the Gear VR headset. This was confirmed by the South Korean tech giant to Anshel Sag, chip technology analyst at Moor Insights & Strategy.
The revelation comes as no surprise, though, seeing as the virtual reality (VR) headset hasn"t received an update since 2017. In February of that year, the Gear VR was refreshed with a new controller and has seen no major additions since. In light of Samsung"s confirmation, disclosed by Sag on Twitter, it"s now unclear what future awaits the Gear VR.
While there"s doubt over the future of the VR headset now, it remains available for purchase via third-party online storefronts such as Amazon, except on Samsung"s own website. Its listing for the device has dropped the purchase button.
The Galaxy Note9 series did support the Gear VR. However, it was done through an adapter and the same was the case with all Galaxy S10 models. There"s no word yet on whether Samsung plans to make the Galaxy Note10 compatible with the Gear VR via an adapter at the very least.
