Game on: Microsoft announces its plans for gamescom 2017, including more Xbox One X news

At E3 in June, Microsoft unveiled the powerful new Xbox One X, priced at $499. The new console was the centerpiece of the company"s showcase at the E3 gaming expo, but Microsoft also revealed a wide range of games coming to the Xbox One X and its siblings, including many indie titles.

Some people complained that Microsoft didn"t make enough announcements at E3, but last month, Xbox marketing chief Aaron Greenberg assured gamers that there"s still plenty more to come, saying: "I can tell you that there are a lot of other projects happening for Xbox, with a lot of big titles that we"re not talking about today." It looks like Microsoft will be talking about at least some of those projects next month, at gamescom 2017.

Today, Microsoft outlined its plans for the gamescom industry event, which will be held in Cologne, Germany towards the end of August - and unsurprisingly, the new Xbox One X will take center stage there:

This will be the first time Xbox One X will be on the ground in Europe, and we’ll have a huge line up of 27 playable games for the Xbox One family of devices and Windows 10 PC from developers around the world, including Forza Motorsport 7, Age of Empires Definitive Edition and Sea of Thieves.

Microsoft will host a live show at gamescom 2017 with Graeme Boyd (better known to many as @AceyBongos on Twitter) and Maxi Graeff from Xbox Germany. That show will be held on Sunday, August 20 at 9pm CEST, where it promises the "latest news and announcements on Xbox One X", adding:

We’ll have news to share, games to show off, will sit down to talk with developers from fan favorite studios and play some of the year’s hottest games yet to be released. There will even be a few surprises and giveaways along the way, so be sure to tune in on mixer.com or watch via the mixer app.

Microsoft will hold a special livestream event on August 21 at 9pm CEST, to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Age of Empires, including "some of the legendary developers who worked on the games as well as sharing some exciting news that fans will not want to miss."

Fans will also be able to take part in another Xbox FanFest experience from August 22, and Microsoft says it will share more details on those plans later.
