Gametap, that wonderful gaming service you see me post about sometimes (including yesterday! ) was, up until today only available in the United States. Well some of you have asked when and indeed if Gametap would be available in other countries. Right now as I type this, Canada has become the first country outside the United States to get Gametap services made available. Yes, my good friends to the north can now partake in the gaming goodness that is Gametap.
Canadian gamers can now pay $6.95 USD each month and get access to all of Gametap"s services, including the 699 games that are currently offered, GametapTV, original offerings such as Space Ghost and of course, new gaming content like Sam & Max Season 1. Canadian gamers can even take advantage of the special "Birthday Celebration" pricing that pretty much amounts to half off the regular price for one year of service. So for $59.40 USD you get a years worth of Gametap service, instead of the $119.40 USD it would normally cost.
And for those curious, the first new episode of Sam & Max will debut on Gametap today October 17th as well. Also debuting today is Myst Online: Uru Live. Also another announcement that may be made today are "Gametap Originals" the new label from Gametap that will see custom games tailor made for the service from independent developers and publishers. Though nothing official has been announced as of right now, as soon as I get something I will post it.
Back to Gametap in Canada. Gametap will also be spreading to other English speaking countries sometime in 2007, though no specific countries were listed, one can only guess (UK anyone?) which countries will get Gametap. 3 other countries are planned in the first quarter of 2007, with other locations spread throughout the year. Non-English localized locations are expected in 2008!
