Gangnam Style is the first YouTube video to reach 1 billion views

Just a few weeks ago, we reported that the music video for Gangnam Style, the music video from Korean pop star PSY, had become the most viewed video on YouTube of all time. The video was posted on July 15 and back on November 24th, it had over 806 million views.

Now the Gangnam Style video has reached yet another major milestone. Earlier today, its views on YouTube exceeded the one billion mark. It is the first video posted on YouTube to reach that number of views and it managed to do so inside of six months.

Not only has the original version of Gangnam Style generated one billion views, other videos posted on PSY"s official YouTube channel have achieved huge numbers on their own. A remix of the song, featuring another Korean artist Hyuna, has achieved over 200 million views.

In a post on the official YouTube blog, it also points out that the rise of the song has also had other effects. The song has generated over 600,000 downloads on iTunes. Even lots of parodies of Gangnam Style have been successful on YouTube, with the blog stating, "In fact, fan tributes to Gangnam Style are now being viewed 20 million times every single day."
