Garmin debuts vívoactive 3 offering a touchscreen, intutive control and contactless payments

Although Garmin is typically more known for its standalone navigation systems, the firm has been making strides in the fitness segment over the past few years with its vast array of wearables. Today, it launches its latest entry in its vívo series with the vívoactive 3.

The vívoactive 3 offers a simple design and features 1.2-inch trans reflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) touchscreen display protected by Corning"s Gorilla Glass 3, a stainless steel bezel with a case made from a fiber-reinforced polymer. The watch will offer a built-in GPS antenna, heart rate sensor, thermometer, compass, barometric altimeter, and more.

Along with the expected set of features that cater towards fitness and health tracking, the vívoactive 3 will also be able to make contactless payments with its Garmin Pay service. This means that while you"re out and about, you"ll be able to use the watch to pay for items without the need to bring your credit card along. While past devices relied heavily on physical buttons, the new vívoactive 3 makes use of a touch sensitive sensor on its left-hand side that allows users to navigate menus by swiping up or down.

The firm is claiming that the watch will be able to get up to seven days of battery life on a single charge or 13 hours while continuously using GPS. The vívoactive 3 starts at $299.99 and is now available from Best Buy.
