There has been plenty of news regarding Microsoft"s upcoming Gears 5 in recent weeks as it heads closer to its release. The latest installment in the famed Gears of War series went gold last month, with the unveiling of its full achievement list.
A few days later, it was revealed that both the title"s Steam and Microsoft Store versions would be based on Win32, another step in the departure from the Universal Windows Platform (UWP). And finally, WWE and Marvel Cinematic Universe-star Dave Bautista was announced as a playable multiplayer character yesterday.
Today, Microsoft has unveiled the launch trailer for Gears 5, showcasing gameplay from four of its five major modes - namely, Campaign, Versus, Escape, and Horde. Dubbed "Gears Forever", the trailer is noted to feature "the biggest Gears ever".
Aside from Bautista in the armor of Marcus Fenix, there are some other characters of interest for fans of pop culture as well. These include Sarah Connor and the T-800 Endoskeleton from Terminator: Dark Fate, as well as Spartans Emile-A239 and Kat-B320 from Halo: Reach. Notably, however, the aforementioned characters, excluding Bautista, will only be available for early access users, or in other words, for Xbox Game Pass Ultimate members or Gears 5 Ultimate Edition owners.
Early access will begin on September 5 at 9 p.m. in users" local time zones. For countries like the U.S. where there are multiple time zones, the earliest time zone will determine launch time. As an example, North American early access will begin at 9 p.m. ET, 8 p.m. CT and 6 p.m. PT simultaneously. For regular users, the game will launch on September 10 for Xbox One, the Microsoft Store on Windows 10, Steam, and Xbox Game Pass.
