Xbox news keeps on coming today. Gears Tactics, the strategy-focused Gears of War spin-off from earlier this year, is finally coming to Xbox consoles following its long stint as a PC exclusive. The title will be available on Xbox One family of consoles as well as Xbox Series S and X on November 10, the same day that the new generation of Xbox consoles are releasing.
While a console launch has always been confirmed for Gears Tactics, this is the first time a date has been attached to the Xbox version. The spin-off is a prequel that follows the story of Gabriel Diaz, the father of Gears 5 heroine Kait Diaz, as he attempts to take down a high ranking Locust that is known for creating monsters such as the Brumak and Corpser.
Unlike other Gears of War entries, this venture puts players into an XCOM-like turn-based strategy situation, where the action is seen from above. Gears of various classes must be recruited, equipped with looted equipment, and used effectively to win battles against the Locust forces.
In our review of the original Gears Tactics PC release, we rated it a 9, calling the game an excellent addition to the strategy genre with aggressive and rewarding gameplay. The Splash Damage and The Coalition-developed turn-based tactics title is currently available on PC via the Microsoft Store, Steam, and the Xbox Game Pass for PC subscription - which received its own announcement today that sees EA Play joining the service.
This is not the only game that received a November 10 release date, as Ubisoft also pulled forward its Assassin"s Creed Valhalla launch to meet the Xbox Series X and S launch.
